Perched on a cliff overlooking the Pacific, mar'sel at Terranea earns
rare "extraordinary" marks from Zagat for both its cuisine (26) and setting (28), with the survey declaring it "should be on every romantic's bucket list." For $99, Travelzoo subscribers can take in the sweeping views while savoring a four-course seasonal dinner for two with wine, regularly $196.
Frommer's ranks the resort "among the most luxurious in Southern California," and mar'sel, its flagship restaurant, features seasonal California fare sourced locally, including from the eatery's own herb and citrus garden. Dine indoors or on the patio, selecting:
First course (for the table):
• A selection of artisan charcuterie: sopressata piccante, prosciutto, duck salami, selected cheeses, pickled vegetables and ciabatta toast
Second course (choice of):
• Handmade ricotta tortellini with charred local cauliflower, wild arugula and Parmesan brodo
• California endive salad with aged Parmesan, white anchovy, duck fat crackers and roasted garlic Parmesan dressing
• Little wagyu meatballs with house-ground wagyu beef, stewed tomatoes and garlic toast
Third course (choice of):
• Crispy Shelton Farms chicken thighs with cauliflower puree, wilted escarole, Hobbs bacon and fried potatoes
• Mediterranean branzino with Bloomsdale spinach, pomegranate and butternut squash puree
• Baked orecchiette with spicy pork sausage, Swiss chard, Gioa ricotta and olive oil bread crumbs
Fourth course (choice of):
• Dark chocolate budino with whipped creme fraiche, cocoa nibs and caramel toffee cookies
• Warm apple crumble with Haas Farm honey crisp apple, salted caramel ice cream and whipped sweet cream
• Selection of seasonal ice creams and sorbets
